Brown is Back

I decided I hadn't been wearing enough brown lately, and made a conscious decision to wear more.

Also, this is one of those nice new Merona t-shirts I got a couple weeks ago - they're like the Old Navy ones used to be, but better! (Longer sleeves, higher neck, good length, thicker fabric...)

Quick Pic

I wasn't going to take a picture today, but at the last minute snapped one as I was on my way out of the house. You may remember my complaint about Old Navy t-shirts. This is one of those shirts, but I wore a camisole underneath. Boo, Old Navy, I shouldn't have to layer t-shirts!

The Cardigan Kid

I love cardigans. Mostly I have them in basic colors like black and brown so I can just throw them on over anything, but I got this purple one on a whim and it makes me so happy!

Friday Before Memorial Day Weekend

I just could not get a good picture of this outfit! Sorry, this'll have to do. My new sandals came in the mail two days before, so I was excited to wear them with a skirt.

Have a Cowl

This shirt is another of my Ross finds. It looked weird on the hanger, but I liked the pattern, so I took it to the dressing room with me. Turns out it was awesome and very flattering. I probably should have adjusted the neck a little before taking the picture, but it really did fall very nicely.

Not pictured is the cardigan I wore all day at work until I went for a post-lunch walk and got all warmed up in the sunshine. (It's this black Merona one.)

Unique New Neck

I love going to Ross, it's like a treasure hunt, and you never know what they'll have in stock. The one closest to me is usually pretty slim pickings, but I took a look last weekend and managed to find a couple nice things. One was this shirt (sold at Ross for almost a third of its retail price - score!).

Later my husband and I went out, so I just changed into jeans and some other shoes. It was a beautiful warm night and I ended up not needing the sweater I carried.

A Camisole Story

Another story of an inappropriate shirt. I got three of these tops a couple summers ago when this style was everywhere. I've only worn each a few times because the wide/low neckline was a little revealing. So today I finally wised up and wore a camisole underneath! Much more comfortable - I'll be wearing them this way from now on.

T-Shirt Rant

On my way out to Target (where I bought much better t-shirts than what Old Navy sells anymore).

T-Shirt - Old Navy
Jeans - Old Navy
Flip-Flops - Old Navy
Purse - Dooney & Bourke

Can I complain about Old Navy for a minute? I have a couple drawers filled with their basic short- and long-sleeved t-shirts. I pick up a few new ones every year, as old ones get retired and they come out with new colors. The original shirts I started buying several years ago were excellent. They were long enough, a good weight, and fit really nicely, with the right amount of stretch to them, etc. This year's shirts, both long- and short-sleeved, have been terrible. They are very thin fabric, the sleeves (on the short-sleeved ones) are much shorter, and the necklines are so low they are almost unfit to wear in public. Case in point: today's outfit. This shirt really needs something under it, and if I wear it again there will be a camisole under there. Of course, the last thing I want to do in the summer is add another layer, so these might be retired until the early fall.

Sweater Uncertainty

I've been thinking of getting rid of this sweater (and the other one I have in pink), but decided to give it another try. The cable knit stretches weird over my chest, but other than that it fits nicely in terms of length and neckline, etc. What do you think, should it stay or should it go?

Wrapped Up

Wrap tops are also a style I often avoid. Whoever said wraps are universally flattering is a liar. When I tried this on in the store it was also unflattering, but I figured with a camisole under it to hold the two flaps of the wrap where they needed to be, it wouldn't be so bad. I also love the longer length of the sleves, which are not quite 3/4 sleeves but definitely longer than short sleeves. I wore this for a busy day filled with important meetings, and felt comfortable and confident all day.

The Empire Strikes Back

I usually don't wear things with empire waists or bands or triangles that define the bust area, because I generally don't fit into that defined space and it looks bad with the band cutting across my chest. So when I found this top that actually had room for my top, I had to get it! (Love the color, too, but I'm a sucker for anything blue.)

Slacks - New York & Company

Here's one without the sweater. But I always have a sweater with me, even on the hottest days of summer, because as long as I'm someplace with air conditioning I know I'll be cold.

Maybe soon I'll post some photos of my closet (which is slowly getting more organized!) and show off my impressive cardigan collection!

Brown is the New Black

I wear a lot of brown. I used to wear a lot of black, but I think lately brown has won out. I guess it's true, brown is the new black. Also, this shirt makes me nervous because you can pretty much see through it. But I guess it's okay with a sweater on top...

My hair must have grown slightly over the weekend, it feels slightly less annoying now. Just a little longer and I'll be able to pull it back (with more than a little stub ponytail).

The End of Black and Gray Week

My rainy black and gray week ended on a non-rainy note, but I continued with the colors anyway.
Shirt - Merona
Slacks - New York & Company
Shoes - Dockers

Necklace - Kathryn Riechert

This is probably my favorite pair of pants, and I don't think New York & Co. carries this style anymore!

Also, my hair has reached an annoying length. It's grown past the "cute bob" stage, but it's still too short to be able to do anything with. I just have to wait it out, because I probably won't get it cut again until the fall.

Rainy Week Break

I thought I'd break up my black and gray rainy week monotony by wearing this bright blue shirt... then I realized I still had black (my sweater) and gray (my pants) on. Oh well. I suppose the break in my colors coincided with the break in the rain, which held off until a nighttime thunderstorm.

I don't wear a lot of jewelry usually, so I feel like these long earrings are pretty unique for me. They're from the etsy seller loopsdesigns - I love all her stuff!

On the Go

This was my day to work from home, but I did have some places to go (met a friend for lunch, and went to band practice in the evening), so I couldn't just stay in my pajamas all day.

Shirt - Modbe
Hoodie - Modbe
Jeans - Old Navy
Sneakers - New Balance
Purse - Dooney & Bourke

Why do I have so much clothing from Modbe, if I am neither modest nor Mormon? I don't know, but this is my favorite hoodie ever (and everyone else who sees it wants one too). Love that it zips from the top down and the bottom up, and the thumb holes in the sleeves are great.

Sorry for the creepy looking eyes, it was a bad attempt at red-eye removal. But how about a pat on the back for a cropped photo taken in a clean room?!

Another Rainy Day

Day two of black and gray week! At least it was less rainy than the day before. But, it was very cold, so I didn't have any problem wearing a long-sleeved sweater over a tank top. (Usually, I like to have the option of removing a layer, which is why you'll see me in cardigans half the time.) I also wore loafers with a bit of a heel, because I discovered that these pants grew too long (my legs shrank?) and I didn't want to drag my heels through puddles by wearing flats.

Sweater - H&M
Tank - Merona
Slacks - New York & Company
Shoes - Dockers

I had some more flattering pictures, but they were taken in front of an even bigger mess, if you can believe it. I really need to find somewhere to take my pictures that isn't a total trash-pile of a room. Maybe the dining room...

Rainy Monday

For some reason I always end up wearing black and gray on rainy days. It's not intentional, it just happens. We're supposed to have about two straight weeks of rain, so prepare for a lot of black and gray, I guess!

Shirt - Merona
Slacks - New York & Company
Shoes - Chinese Laundry

To add a bit of color, I wore these turquoise earrings my mom brought me from Arizona or somewhere in the southwest.

Trip to the Italian Market

Today we went to the Italian Market in Philadelphia to buy some cheese, then later went to watch the Kentucky Derby with our friends who just had a baby. It was a long day, so I wanted to be comfortable.

Top - Old Navy
Jeans - Old Navy
Shoes - Clarks Privo
Purse - Merona
Sunglasses - Xhileration

I'm not sure why all my pictures are coming out blurry now. Any ideas? I'm sure it's that the camera is trying to auto-focus on something that's closer than I am...

Banded Shirt

I'm always nervous about wearing this top because I can't decide if the band around the middle helps suck in my tummy or adds bulk there. What do you think? Either way, I do like it - would you believe it's a sale rack purchase? It needs a tank under it, but that's just a way to add some extra color and interest.

This picture is a little blurry when you view it at its larger size. I got a clearer shot, but my feet are cut off. I'll get the hang of it eventually!
